JK Auther Awards : Season 5 at Taja Palace Hotel, New Delhi

The 2024 Season 5 of the Awards took place on 17th March at Taj Palace Hotel, Diplomatic Enclave, New Delhi. I attended the award ceremony along with budding women writers, politicians, bureaucrats and famous personalities from the publishing world.

JK Auther Awards : The Categories and Winners
The awards had 4 categories – fiction, non-fiction, children’s literature, and debut. There was a separate category for lifetime achievement award, a prize in the popular choice category (based on an online poll), and a best manuscript award. The awardees came from publishers like HarperCollins, Penguin Random House India, Juggernaut, Hachette India, Aleph Book Company, Readomania, among others.
Given below is a list of all women “Auther” awardees for the year 2024:
- Best Author Fiction – Tashan Mehta for Mad Sisters of Esi and Sonora Jha for The Laughter
- Best Non-fiction Author – Sudha Bharadwaj for Phansi Yard: My Year with theWomen of Yerawada
- Best Debut – Rajasree Variyar for The Daughters of Madurai and Neerja Chowdhury for How Prime Ministers Decide
- Best Children’s Author – Devika Cariapa for A Children’s History of India in 100 Objects and Shabnam Minwalla for Zen
- Popular Choice Award with maximum online votes – Sahar Zaman for Talat Mahmood: A Definitive Biography (self-published)
- Lifetime Achievement Award – Sahitya Akademi Winner and Veteran Indian novelist Mridula Garg
- Best Manuscript – Vibha Sangeeta Krishnakumar for Kaushalya
- Certificate of Excellence – Ananya Raghu for Havoc
It was a delight to meet Ms. Tashan Mehta, author of Mad Sisters of Esi. A sweetheart to the core, Tashan resides in Goa and also extended a warm invitation to me to visit her there 🙂
