New Vizag int’l airport starts operations
Visakhapatnam’s new Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport commenced commercial operations on Monday. IndiGo flight 6E 6408 from Hyderabad marked the first arrival at the new aviation gateway. The airport also welcomed its first international services connecting to Abu Dhabi and Singapore. IndiGo and Air India Express flights received ceremonial water cannon salutes during the opening. The airport was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 1. It has an initial annual passenger handling capacity of 6 million and has been master planned for phased expansion to more than 40 million passengers annually. The airport has a 3,800-metre Code 4E runway capable of handling wide-body aircraft. The facility is also expected to support the expansion of air cargo operations and strengthen Visakhapatnam’s role as an aviation and logistics hub on India’s eastern seaboard.
Rural youth powering MSME growth
India’s next MSME growth wave could come from the country’s vast rural talent pool—but only if skilling moves beyond certificates to genuine industry readiness. India can leverage its demographic dividend for competitive advantage by 2047, covering AI fluency, digital literacy, women’s workforce participation, and the future of rural entrepreneurship. The India Skills Report 2026 confirms that national employability stands at just 56.35%. This means meaning barely one in two graduates is considered job ready. For ITI and polytechnic graduates, the very talent pool MSMEs draw from, employability drops to 45.95% and 32.92% respectively.
Maharashtra’s first model sub-registrar office in Pune
Pune has become Maharashtra’s first city to receive a Model Sub-Registrar Office (SRO). This initiative aims to modernize property registration and improve service delivery across the state. VFS Global and WE Excel Software will establish sixty such offices in phases. These centers will utilize digital infrastructure and offer enhanced applicant assistance. The program will expand to Mumbai, Thane, and Nagpur in its initial phase.
RE generation from canals and drains in Delhi Masterplan
Delhi’s Master Plan for 2047 proposes harnessing renewable energy from existing canals and drains. The plan also suggests utilizing greenfield areas for agriculture-cum-solar farms and solar power for bus depots. Government buildings with sufficient rooftop space will install solar panels as per policy guidelines. Subsidies and incentives are being considered to reduce upfront costs for consumers installing solar plants. one of the projects that the Delhi government is currently exploring is the installation of solar panels along the Najafgarh drain over a six-kilometre stretch from the Dhansa Border to Ghummanhera.
India’s EV shipments to Europe
Europe emerged as the best destination for Indian electric motor car shipments in the first quarter of 2026-27. The United Kingdom ranks second-largest market and recorded imports worth USD 78.7 million, compared with negligible shipments in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. This is according to the commerce ministry data. Spain became the largest market, with exports rising to USD 146.4 million, accounting for nearly 40 per cent of India’s total exports under this category. Exports to Germany reached USD 25.1 million, followed by Norway (USD 21.1 million) and Denmark (USD 21 million). Japan imported USD 13.4 million worth of electric cars, while shipments were recorded to Israel (USD 2.8 million), Australia (USD 2.7 million), Singapore (USD 1.7 million), Taiwan (USD 1.3 million), and South Korea.
