“Minor” drop in vehicle mileage from E20?

The Petroleum Minister acknowledged a minor drop in fuel efficiency with E20 petrol but highlighted improved acceleration and engine performance as key benefits. Despite consumer concerns about mileage and older vehicles, the government is pushing ahead with ethanol blending. India is also exploring higher blends like E25 and E85. India adopted 20% ethanol blending in petrol after consulting all stakeholders, including SIAM and ARAI, and would move to 25% blending only after completing all necessary tests.

Rs. 7,000 Cr Project for Dwarka, Gurgaon to South Delhi

Travelling between Dwarka, Gurugram, IGI Airport and South Delhi could soon become significantly faster. The Union Cabinet has approved a ₹6,969.67-crore, 8.1-km highway project featuring a 3.14-km underground tunnel connecting the Shiv Murti Interchange on the Dwarka Expressway to Nelson Mandela Marg in Vasant Kunj. The project includes a tunnel beneath the Southern Ridge Forest, an elevated road, a flyover and an elevated U-turn near Mahipalpur–Chhatarpur. The NHAI will execute the project, which is expected to be completed in five years.

10x rise in domestic Container manufacturing

India has successfully manufactured its first export-import shipping container for global giant A.P. Moller-Maersk, marking a significant stride towards self-reliance in maritime manufacturing. This achievement, a direct result of Prime Minister Modi’s ‘Make in India’ vision, underscores growing international confidence in India’s capabilities. The Container Manufacturing Promotion Scheme aims for a 10x increase in domestic capacity. The scheme was announced in the Budget 2026. s 10,000 crore scheme envisages “an annual manufacturing capacity boost by 10 times up to 7.5 lakh containers, supported through capital assistance, operational incentives, research, testing and technology development.”

Immigration Check Points at Jewar, Agartala airports

Union Home Minister Amit Shah directed operationalization of immigration checkpoints at Agartala and Jewar airports. He also prioritized development of sixty-two airports within two years for passenger convenience. Foreigners Regional Registration Offices will become operational at all state headquarters by 2027. A mechanism will be established to promote the Fast Track Immigration Programme with airlines. Automated X-ray Tray Return Systems will be installed nationwide to reduce human resource costs.

Yotta to fund AI infrastructure expansion

Yotta Data Services, a subsidiary of Hiranandani group, has raised around $150 million from non-institutional investors at a valuation of around $3.9 billion or Rs 37,000 crore, as the centre company is looking to accelerate expansion of its artificial intelligence and cloud businesses. The capital raise, completed over the past few months, involved no promoter offer-for-sale, with the entire proceeds being infused into the business to support growth, the company said in a statement on Monday. Data centre operators and cloud infrastructure providers to ramp up investments in Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) capacity and sovereign cloud platforms.

New service fees for Hormuz Strait

Iran’s ambassador to China announced new service fees for ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz, despite US objections. Ambassador Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli stated these fees would cover security, supervision, and environmental concerns, with “friendly” nations receiving special consideration. This comes after Iran lifted its blockade of the vital waterway following a preliminary deal with the US to end the Middle East war, with ongoing negotiations for a permanent settlement.

Satellite based navigation system for Helicopters

India has achieved a significant aviation milestone with the approval of its first Private Point-in-Space (PinS) instrument approach procedure for helicopters at Undavalli Heliport. This satellite-based technology allows for safe and accurate landings, especially in challenging weather or remote locations. The innovation is set to boost helicopter operations across various sectors, enhancing safety and accessibility nationwide. The technology will support emergency medical services, disaster relief, tourism, offshore operations, pilgrimage services, corporate aviation and regional connectivity.
